🌰
Black walnut
📍 3937 Todd Railroad Grade Rd, Todd, NC 28684, USA
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Tree is in parking lot with lots of black walnuts falling in October. Some fall into road and into church property. Ask about ones on private property, but i've never had an issue.
