Serviceberry

📍 817 Lincoln Way W, South Bend, IN 46616, USA
Serviceberry Private
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
There are four seviceberry trees with edible fruits around a parking lot. Two of them are located in the east side of a red brick building. The other two of them are located in the north wall of an offices building. The former mature earlier. That allows for almost a month of serviceberry picking (if the robins and cardinals leave some for you). I have never asked before picking and I had no problems. For five years I picked those berries with my children. Enjoy!
