American persimmon

American persimmon Public
🗓 Season: October · November · December
🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
This native persimmon tree drops copious amounts of fruit after the first frost onto public property, near the Fairfax County Judicial complex. Park around the corner at the Post Office and walk up. If the fruit is ripe, you will see it littering the ground. Fruit is best picked up off the ground after it has already fallen from the tree.
