Japanese persimmon

📍 605 Holloway St, Durham, NC 27701, USA
Japanese persimmon Public
🗓 Season: October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Two types: astringent (Hachiya — must be very soft before eating) and non-astringent (Fuyu — eaten crisp). Both are orange when ripe. Hachiya: ripe when feels like a water balloon. Fuyu: ripe when orange, firm, and sweet even when crisp.
Looks to be an abandoned orchard. Several if the grafts didn't take well, so the rootstock is shooting off big branches on most of them.
