🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep purple-black when ripe; intensely flavoured and juicy. Spread a tarp and shake the tree — ripe fruits fall immediately. Stains everything permanently — wear old clothes. Do not pick unripe red berries (mildly hallucinogenic).
This is a huge tree with tons of fruit in the summer until early July. It's right on the edge between two properties, so the fruit can be accessed from both sides. To get to it you have to be on Waterbury Ave and then either walk back into the playground area of the day care or ask the people in house 109 if it's alright to enter their yard to pick the berries. They make for delicious jam!
