Muscadine
📍 5614 Locke St, Wilmington, NC 28403, USA
🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Large, bronze or purple berries; thick skin. Ripe when fully coloured and falls freely from the vine with a shake. Very sweet and musky; thick skin usually discarded. Harvest by shaking clusters over a bucket.
Dark purple muscadine grapes and vines. Location is all around the reservoir, off dirt/sand paths that go around pond from city bike trail. Vines are healthy but still young with palm sized leaves, but have good production. I’ve collected several pints of grapes in the past (and don’t forget that grape leaves are edible too - best if steamed).
