Stinging nettle
📍 The White House, Sydenham, Chinnor OX39 4NE, UK
🗓 Season: March · April · May
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest only the top 4–6 young leaves in spring before flowering. Use gloves — sting disappears completely on cooking. Blanch, steam, or make into soup. Do not eat once plant flowers (gets gritty). Highly nutritious — rich in iron and vitamins.
A long stand of nettles here. Occasionally they get cut back. If you're coming from the village, take the footpath towards Copcourt, walk the length of the first field, cross the footbridge over the stream, and look straight to your right.
