🌰
Black walnut
📍 General Harry Clay Trexler statue, 451 Springhouse Rd, Allentown, PA 18104, USA
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Black walnut trees line the Eastern half of the path in Trexler Park that leads to the General Harry Clay Trexler statue.
