🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Green skin turns slightly yellow and gives like a ripe avocado. Custard-like, mango-banana scented flesh inside. Falls at the slightest touch. Very short shelf life — refrigerate and eat within days. Found throughout eastern North America.
In Watkins Regional Park, parked at Watkins Nature Center. Hiked upland trail, then turned onto the orange trail. Southeast of Beaver Pond were two different locations which each had at least a dozen unripe pawpaws (2 inch long unripe fruit) on August 20.
