🔍 When is it ripe?
Colour fully develops (purple, red, or yellow by variety) and a waxy bloom appears on the skin. Softens slightly at the tip. Taste-test for sweetness — European plums are better slightly soft; Japanese types can be harvested firmer.
Plums the size of golf balls, dark red, thought maybe Allred or Morris plums. Tart little things with moderate pits, but with the amount of trees and fallen fruit, there is quite a gathering to make several batches of plum jelly, or as I did, ferment to make plum wine.
