Black walnut

📍 1107 S Benton Ave, St Charles, MO 63301, USA
Black walnut Private
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Massive black walnut that drops a ton of walnuts every couple of years. Tree is on private land, but overflows into 2 yards. My yard gets a lot of these, and since they can make dogs sick and we have two dogs, I'm *more than happy* to let you in to gather some! Please just knock and ask. We are 1007 S Benton, the house with the wooden privacy fence. Do not try to enter without permission, not because we're mean but because our dogs may be out, and while they're never bit anybody, they are reactive and will act aggressive. Just knock on the front door and I'll herd them inside so you can pick to your heart's content! I'll update this location when I see that walnuts are falling. ***Last time we noticed walnuts was 2020, so they're due for a heavy this or next year! (We had literal piles of them.*** PLEASE TAKE OUR NUTS.)
