Serviceberry
📍 978 Windbrooke Dr, Gaithersburg, MD 20879, USA
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
Excellent Tree, only problem is fruits often get a disease since there are cypresses in the area. Don't worry not all is lost since there are still plenty of fruit that don't get that problem. Don't eat the fungus fruit for Obvious reasons.
Fruit without Fungus is edible raw or cooked, even with the seeds. Yes seeds contain cyanide but they are so little you would probably have to eat 5000 to even feel an effect. So Gobble them up like bulberries but if you are super concerned about the seeds spit them out to plant more food. Fruit ripens in Earle June to Late June.
