🔍 When is it ripe?
Bright to deep red, slightly translucent. Firmer than sweet cherries when ripe. Strong tart flavour — avoid if still pale or streaked green. Harvest before birds; fruits hang briefly after colouring.
There are a number of sour cherry trees south of the path from the parking lot to Loretto Heights playground and picnic area. The trees are unsprayed, so the cherries get more and more wormy as the season gets later.
