Serviceberry

📍 The Waterloo Waterfall, 29 Caroline St N, Waterloo, ON N2L 2Y5, Canada
Serviceberry Private but overhanging
🗓 Season: June · July
🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
There are several large, prolific Serviceberry trees right beside the Grist Mill, can be reached without a ladder. The darker the berry, the sweeter it will taste. (Lighter berries are more tart)
