🌳
Thimbleberry
🗓 Season: June · July · August
🔍 When is it ripe?
Flat, dome-shaped, brilliant red berries. Very delicate — falls apart when fully ripe. Eat on the spot; does not travel. Ripe when uniformly red and separates without effort.
Thousanda of Thimbleberry bushes around parking area and road leading to North Canal Park(Breakers). Decent quality fruit, and intermingled with raspberries, making it the perfect place to pick for your favorite thimbleraspberry jam. Watch out for wasp nests here as recent logging left a perfect habitat for them. Bear in mind, these Thimbleberries are growing on Stamp Sands, which contains Mercury and Arsenic. Levels are deemed safe by the EPA, but research is still ongoing regarding the safety of food growing on stamp sands. Pick at your own comfort level.
