Black walnut
📍 22A Chowne St, Campbell ACT 2612, Australia
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Information from the book 'Street trees in Canberra - Compiled by Audrey H. Edwards - 1979 (ISBN 0708101925)' states that Juglans Nigra (Black Walnut) was planted in Chowne Street. No other tree species was recorded for this street. This location has not been confirmed in person.
