🔍 When is it ripe?
Citrus: Depends on species, but universal cues: fruit is heavy for its size, skin is fully coloured for the variety, and scratch-and-sniff gives a strong citrus aroma. Most citrus holds on the tree for months once ripe.
Common grape: Fully coloured and separates easily from the stem. Taste is the best guide — sweet with little tartness. Harvest the whole bunch at once.
Pomegranate: Skin turns from pale orange to deep red; fruit becomes angular and the blossom end flattens slightly as arils expand. Tap the skin — a ripe pomegranate sounds metallic. Heavy for its size. A slight crack at the shoulder is fine. Do not wait for it to fall.
