🗓 Season: June · July · September · October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Cherry: Deep red and glossy; stem pulls cleanly. Taste is the best test — sweet and juicy when ripe, still astringent if picked too early.
Hawthorn: Deep red haws (berries) develop from green. Ripe when dark red and slightly soft. Edible raw but mealy — better for haw jelly, syrup, or wine. Contains a large stone. Improve after first frost.
Many red maples and patches of pine make up general forest composition. Some haws and crabapple mixed in especially on trail edges. Couple varieties of cherry trees as well here and there, most out of hand's reach.
