Blackberry · Blackcurrant · Lemon balm · Mint · Raspberry
📍 15 Brownlie St, Glasgow G42 9BT, UK
🗓 Season: July · August · September · May · June
🔍 When is it ripe?
Blackberry: Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
Blackcurrant: Fully black, glossy berries hanging in strigs. Ripe when all berries on the strig are black. Tart but intensely flavoured — leave a few extra days for sweetness. Best for juice, jam, and cordial.
Mint: Harvest leaves just before flowering for peak flavour. Cut stems back by a third regularly to encourage bushy growth. Flavour declines after flowering — cut flower spikes off to extend harvest.
Raspberry: Deep red (or gold/yellow for golden varieties) and slides off the receptacle — the hollow centre is the tell. Does not pull: a ripe raspberry separates at a touch. Extremely fragile; use within hours of picking.
Accessible if you hop the fence from Stanmore Road, or if you go from the bin alley on Bolivar Terrace.
The blackberries are set to climb up the trees, get good sunlight, and are good quality + quantity.
Raspberries usually get eaten by the birds but there is some.
Blackccurrant and lemon balm are a bonus find by the bin alley.
