American elderberry

American elderberry
🗓 Season: August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Blue-black berries in flat clusters; cook before eating. Ripe when uniformly dark blue-black and heavy. Also note: elderflowers in June are edible raw and excellent for cordial.
One small-medium-sized bush along side of retention pond near the weeping willow, plus another on the opposite corner near the intersection. Flowers have been best in May/June, and fruit in late-July/early-August, depending on weather.
