🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
A single persimmon tree at the edge of the road, where the bike path through the park begins. Tons of fruit on tree in October-December. Lots of fruit drop on the road & trail. Very astringent unless ripe to the point of rotting. Unclear if public or private, although no one seemed to mind my lurking and gathering fruit.
