🔍 When is it ripe?
Currant: Red: translucent, jewel-like clusters. White: pale cream. Both are ripe when fully coloured and hang as a bunch. Tart and high in pectin — best for jelly and summer pudding. Harvest the whole strig.
Walnut: Green outer husk splits and darkens; nuts fall or shake loose. Remove husks immediately and cure for 2 weeks to develop full flavour. Gloves prevent staining.
this area is scattered with walnut tree, in the shade beneath some are currents. unless you have the gate code for the sulfur mountain road gate near highway 33 and camp arnez it's a good long walk or mountain bike ride over a dusty road through cattle pastures and rolling hill scattered with oak forests. i have only been here when the walnuts are on season, i've never been here for the currents A recent wildfire has burned 230,000 acres. these walnuts trees and current bushes are probably gone.
