📍 1700 Dewitt Ave, Alexandria, VA 22301, USA
Black walnut Permitted by owner
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Large, mature black walnut tree in the side yard of this home. Scatters hundreds of walnuts throughout the yard, as the homeowner, we are more than happy to have you pick the dropped nuts from the yard!
