🌰
Black walnut
📍 211 N Hambden St, Chardon, OH 44024, USA
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Many black walnut trees within the few blocks around Chardon square. Most located in people's yards, ask before picking. Noticed most to the west of the square though also some to the east. Not sure of north and south. Location approximate.
