🔍 When is it ripe?
Yellow, fragrant, and very hard when ripe — not soft like apples. Look for a deep golden-yellow colour and a strong quince aroma. Inedible raw (very astringent); excellent for jam, paste, and jelly after cooking.
There is a small orchard of Quince trees here. I guess they were planted by someone to do with the convent or children's farm. I don't *know* if they belong to anyone who plans to harvest them, but there are no signs or notices. It seemed rude not to take just a few.
