Black walnut

📍 XFM7+VM Evansville, IN, USA
Black walnut Public
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Oak Hill Cemetery and Arboretum is host to dozens of very large mature black walnut trees. The nuts usually fall in late October. Just be aware that falling walnuts hurt badly. These are always a good quality. No permission needed to gather here.
