Black walnut

📍 Yates Store Rd, just below Amberly neighborhood. Follow walking path, then enter woods.
Black walnut Public
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
There is a massive black walnut tree in here. Park along the road, then follow the walking path. Cross into the woods, and look up. You can't miss it, it's HUGE! Watch out for holes in the ground, though! The creeping grass and vines cover them up. Big producer!
