Blackcurrant · Goutweed · Jerusalem artichoke · Lovage · Redcurrant · Stinging nettle
📍 Mechelininkatu 36a, 00260 Helsinki, Finland
🗓 Season: July · August · March · April · May
🔍 When is it ripe?
Blackcurrant: Fully black, glossy berries hanging in strigs. Ripe when all berries on the strig are black. Tart but intensely flavoured — leave a few extra days for sweetness. Best for juice, jam, and cordial.
Stinging nettle: Harvest only the top 4–6 young leaves in spring before flowering. Use gloves — sting disappears completely on cooking. Blanch, steam, or make into soup. Do not eat once plant flowers (gets gritty). Highly nutritious — rich in iron and vitamins.
Huom! Älä sekoita puutarhaa polun toisella puolella oleviin viljelylaatikoihin jotka yksityisomaisuutta.
Used to be a communal garden before the NGO was evicted. Artichokes may be found under the soil as well as some other plants gone wild. Couple of berry bushes (red and blackcurrants). This garden is right on the backyard of the yellow wooden building. The backyard also contains several herbal plants in stone circle at the corner of the plant.
NB! There is a private garden with wooden boxes, on the other side of the pathway, so don't confuse with that!
