Pear · riverbank grape

📍 4919 Allison Dr, Champaign, IL 61822, USA
Pearriverbank grape Public
🗓 Season: August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Unlike apples, pears ripen from the inside out. Harvest when the skin colour lightens and the fruit separates with a gentle upward twist. Ripen off the tree at room temperature — leave on a counter until the neck yields to thumb pressure.
Follow a small trail in the overgrowth made over time by a fisherman and it will lead you to grapevines all over, and a pear tree near the creek. Pears are medium sized and very astringent. No grapes, you can eat the leaves though. You could also get a small paintbrush and pollinate the grapes yourself in Vern (spring).
