🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep purple-black when ripe; intensely flavoured and juicy. Spread a tarp and shake the tree — ripe fruits fall immediately. Stains everything permanently — wear old clothes. Do not pick unripe red berries (mildly hallucinogenic).
There are two large mulberry trees in the parking lot next to the Starbucks! Look for the passage beside the dumpsters. They're hearty with fruit during the summer and ripe for foraging. Peak harvest seems to be from late April to June. There's so much fruit the ground becomes blackened beneath all the squashed berries.
