🔍 When is it ripe?
Blue-black berries in flat clusters; cook before eating. Ripe when uniformly dark blue-black and heavy. Also note: elderflowers in June are edible raw and excellent for cordial.
Medium-sized elderberry bush on slope just before tunnel under East Wash. Flowers late May/early June; fruit ripe in August. UPDATE August 2020: This bush has died.
