🌳
American persimmon
🗓 Season: October · November · December
🔍 When is it ripe?
Must be fully ripe (very soft, almost jelly-like) before eating. Harvest after first frost or when naturally falling. Dark orange to purple when ready. Rich, caramel-sweet flavour.
Spotted in February with fruit still hanging from upper branches (8'-10' height). I sampled a few of these and really enjoyed their lovely polar vortex freeze/thaw conditioned flavor.. yum, what a treat!
update (aug 29, 2016): checked on these a month ago and did not see much fruit forming. The Sumachs were nearly growing over it on the south side so I hacked all the ones down that were blocking light. I will do this each year until the Persimmon trees are bigger.
