🍒
Cornelian cherry dogwood
📍 2750 SW Campus Way, Corvallis, OR 97331, USA
🗓 Season: August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Bright red olive-shaped berries. Very sour when first red — wait until they turn deep red and fall freely or can be shaken off. High in vitamin C. Good for jam, wine, and sauce.
OSU campus; SE corner of Ag Life Sciences building. Recent construction has stressed the trees, but they look like they'll survive.
Update(not OP)- 10/20/2021- Trees had a huge crop of berries this year and are all doing well. Would recommend foraging for these as not a lot of people or animals do and it all mostly ends up rotting.
