🔍 When is it ripe?
Background colour changes from green to yellow or cream (variety determines final colour). Seeds inside should be brown. Flesh yields slightly to thumb pressure. A ripe apple releases with a gentle upward twist — no pulling. Check the ground for natural drops.
I’ve been told this is an old homestead orchard from before Emigrant Lake was formed and this area was the original site of Ashland. I have yet to sample these but there are a 2-3 orchards our here. I haven’t looked closely, but there might be fruit bedsides apples, too.
