🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep purple with a dusty bloom when ripe. Flesh softens and detaches cleanly from the stone. Sweet, rich flavour. Drops to the ground when fully ripe — check beneath the tree daily.
Several large plum trees (both red and yellow varieties) along the canal. Ripe as early as August but typically better into September.
Venture down the slope to the field-border for easier access to fallen fruit.
There's also blackberries, horse mint and at least one cranberry tree nearby.
