Shagbark hickory

Shagbark hickory
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Thick green husk splits into four sections when ripe. Nuts fall; gather from the ground. Rich, sweet, buttery flavour — worth the effort of cracking the very hard shell. Dry for 2–3 weeks.
Some young shagbarks in this little strip of trees, mostly along western edge. One located at marker point at parking lot corner.
