🍐
Common fig
📍 1542 N Villere St, New Orleans, LA 70116, USA
🗓 Season: June · July · August · September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Two crops: breba (June–July on old wood) and main (Aug–Oct). Ripe figs hang downward, skin may crack, feel very soft, and often show a drop of nectar at the eye. Colour depends on variety (green, brown, purple). A milky sap at the stem means underripe.
This fig tree produces lots of fruit every year. The property seems to be abandoned/not in use. It's a weird bare triangle strip. You may have to fend off the birds, but this type of sugar fig is nutritious, tasty, and worth the forage.
