🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
The blackberry bushes located in the Black Forest are large and healthy producing the largest blackberries I’ve ever seen. Beware! The mosquitos are ravenous and you need to be properly covered to deal with that while picking. Stick to the trails and head to the back of the forest and you will find them.
