🌰
Black walnut
📍 12 Longmeadow Dr, Amherst, MA 01002, USA
🗓 Season: September · October
🔍 When is it ripe?
Harvest when the green husk turns yellow-green and the nut falls naturally or can be shaken loose. Wear gloves — the husk stains permanently. Remove husk immediately, then cure nuts in a cool, airy place for 2–3 weeks before cracking. Intensely flavoured.
Tons of black walnut trees in the area, but there's one in particular by the back parking area that's pretty fruitful. Seems to pick up about late September.
