American elderberry
📍 3900 Hog Mountain Rd NE, Hoschton, GA 30548, USA
🗓 Season: August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Blue-black berries in flat clusters; cook before eating. Ripe when uniformly dark blue-black and heavy. Also note: elderflowers in June are edible raw and excellent for cordial.
4 named cultivar elderberry trees from the farmstead that became the park. Excellent fruit quality and bonkers yields. Picked 10+ gallons here and didn't make a dent
