🔍 When is it ripe?
Fully black (not red or dark red) and comes off the stem with no resistance — zero pull. Dull rather than shiny; a shiny black berry is still slightly underripe and tart. Eat the same day for best flavour.
Sizeable briars on the North and South sides of the VA Capital Trail, near mile marker 43, at power line easement. FYI: these areas are often sprayed with heavy pesticides to keep lines clear. Bushes are at edges, and may avoid the worst of the spray leachate.
