🔍 When is it ripe?
Small, round, turning from red to deep purple-black. Sweet and blueberry-like when fully dark. Birds eat them as soon as they ripen — check daily. Best fresh or in pies and jam.
PRIVATE PROPERTY– Saint Xavier High School. At least 11 serviceberry tree/bushes on campus, ranging from 6 to 16 feet tall. Very good yield in 2017, very poor-quality in 2018. Locations: 1 to the right of cafeteria doors. 3 to the left of cafeteria doors. 4 bordering the entrance to the turnabout near the lacebark elm trees. 3 at the parking-lot-side corners of the Sterne Gymn. Species: downy, canadian, or a hybrid cultivar.
