🍇
Oregon-grape
📍 17925 SW Rosa Rd, Beaverton, OR 97078, USA
🗓 Season: July · August · September
🔍 When is it ripe?
Blue-black berries with a dusty bloom in grape-like clusters. Very tart raw but edible; excellent for jelly and wine. Ripe when deep blue-black. High in vitamin C.
There are many oregon grape bushes lining the sidewalk here. Berries be used for jellies, jams, and drinks. Also makes a cool color changing dye (blue-purple-red) (basic-neutral-acidic) depending on the pH.
The interior of the bark can be used as a yellow dye and I hear you can make a bronze from the leaves. Not light or wash fast.
