Five or so squash plants grow along the side of a drainage ditch here. They seem to have been reseeding themselves for years. Look like a rounded type of summer squash. There were about 5 small squash and more flowers at the end of July. Neither gourd nor tuber is edible, although the seeds can be roasted and eaten similarly to pumpkin seeds. Tuber and gourd are very bitter. Contain saponins.
