Eastern hemlock

πŸ“ 19235 Watkins Mill Rd, Montgomery Village, MD 20886, USA
Eastern hemlock Public
2 of the best and I mean Absolutely best trees for Eastern Hemlock. To Identify them, Needles are flat with a white underside, crush them to smell a very pleasant pine smell. Yews (Which are poison) are in the area which look similar but are typically bushes. They do not have this nice smell nor white undersides. Needles can make a very good tea by steeping the needles in boiling water. (AVAILABLE YEAR ROUND) Young Shoots (Which are the young needles) are Edible raw or cooked, they taste very delicious and not too resinous or sour. YES SALAD TREES DO EXIST and this is one of them. Harvest Young Shoots in Early May but don't pick them all, save some so you can have more next year. If you actually pick them all Tree will die.
