Canada onion · Cattail · Common plantain · Hackberry · Rose of sharon
📍 11475 Cromwell Dr, Dallas, TX 75229, USA
🗓 Season: May · June · July · September · October · November
🔍 When is it ripe?
Cattail: Multiple edible parts across the season: young shoots (spring), green flower spikes (May–June, boil like corn), yellow pollen (June–July, shake into a bag), and starchy root (year-round). Green spikes are ripe when fully formed but still bright green.
Hackberry: Dark purple when ripe; sweet with a dry, date-like texture. Hard crunchy seed is edible. Persist on the tree through winter.
There’s a creek by the edge of the park with small populations around the edges. Not much but I thought I’d share! Keep in mind that I am new to foraging, so some plants may be misidentified.
