🔍 When is it ripe?
Cherry: Deep red and glossy; stem pulls cleanly. Taste is the best test — sweet and juicy when ripe, still astringent if picked too early.
Gooseberry: Unripe: small, hard, very tart (good for cooking). Ripe: translucent, slightly soft, and sweet — variety colour is red, yellow, or green. Ripe gooseberries come off the stalk easily and have a sweet aroma.
Raspberry: Deep red (or gold/yellow for golden varieties) and slides off the receptacle — the hollow centre is the tell. Does not pull: a ripe raspberry separates at a touch. Extremely fragile; use within hours of picking.
3 Cherry varieties: White Gold (sweet), Kristin (sweet), Morello (sour) White Gold and Kristin ripen in June. Morello ripens in July Wild gooseberries -- small fruit, green early in the season and dark purplish later. Raspberries: Red. Sweet. Can be very proific depending on how well it was pruned the previous season. Private property. Must have permission or be invited to harvest the fruit.
