🔍 When is it ripe?
Deep red haws (berries) develop from green. Ripe when dark red and slightly soft. Edible raw but mealy — better for haw jelly, syrup, or wine. Contains a large stone. Improve after first frost.
Two hawthorn bushes with very large haws. Not sure if exact sub species. Great eaten fresh or made into jelly/jam as I have done.
Ripe April/May.
