downy oak
π 827 route de Pertuis, 84120 Mirabeau, France
There are Q. pubescens all over town, but this part of the paved road is not accessible to cars and it makes for a really good harvesting location. Mid December and the pickings are slim for those not already germinating or overly saturated with water. They are very low in tannins and I am only leaching them for a couple of days. Keep your eyes out for oak galls on this variety, too.
