Thimbleberry
🗓 Season: June · July · August
🔍 When is it ripe?
Flat, dome-shaped, brilliant red berries. Very delicate — falls apart when fully ripe. Eat on the spot; does not travel. Ripe when uniformly red and separates without effort.
Hundreds of Thimbleberry bushes around parking area and trail leading to Redridge Steel Dam. Usually Ripe in mid July-late August depending on summer temperatures. Many across the dam as well, so don't be against a little exploring. Just be mindful of the adjacent private property; Picking Thimbleberries off of private land in the keweenaw (or anywhere) is a big no-no.
